Sheikh Mohammed Honored

Sheikh Mohammed Hussen Al-Amudi wins national recognition for his efforts to promote Ethiopian football

sheikh-mohd1His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Hussen Al-Amudi has for many years been at the forefront of promoting the sport of football in Ethiopia. His huge generosity in financing football tournaments has been of vital assistance in the developing and promoting Ethiopian sport at national and international levels. Among many other endeavors he sponsored the Secafa tournament for 3 years from 2005 to 2007.

During the closing ceremony of this seasons’ league he was given honor and recognition not only for sponsoring tournaments but also for giving enormous incentives to the Ethiopian national team players who won the 27th Secafa Championship proudly hosted by Ethiopia.

sheikh-mohd2His sponsorship becomes especially crucial to the Ethiopian football this year due to the crisis in the Ethiopian football federation. His contribution played a significant role in creating a healthy and active image for this season’s league named after one of his companies, Midroc.

The award ceremony in the national stadium during the closing ceremony of this season’s league was also in recognition and honor of his contributions across all areas of sporting sector. One of the best examples is his generosity in transporting the Ethiopian athletes who took part in the 10th World Championships of athletics held in Helsinki- Finland. Our participation saw unprecedented level of success for the Ethiopian team, which won incredible medals of the gold. He covered all of the additional expenses and sent a chartered plain to bring the team home and took part in the celebrations His recent donation of more than 5 million birr to the Ethiopia Olympic team preparing for Beijing is one example of his ongoing support for all areas of sporting sector.

It extends to giving enormous financial and other aid to players struggling to make their careers; sport journalists and other member of the Ethiopian sporting fraternity faced with personal difficulties and health problems.

It was a fantastic experience to witness a crowd of many thousands cheer, "Alamudi Alamudi" in the National Stadium, a fitting recognition for all his tremendous efforts in promoting sport in our country.
